America, Isn't There A Better Way?
I just took one of those internet personality "tests" .
We all know this form of internet interaction being used as a form of keeping in touch (as opposed to sending an actual note where we formally ask how someone is and tell them how we feel)
Anyway, my test told me that I am a
Garfield :
(Which went on to say: )
"very comfortable, easy going, and you definitely know how to have fun but....may take it to an extreme. (and in addition) would always know what you are doing and you are always in control of your life. Others may not see things as you do, but that doesn't mean that you always have to do what is right. Try to remember, your happy spirit may hurt you or others. "
As I read it I wondered who had decided this was me and what they had based the analysis on?
After all I have never had any contact (that I'm aware of) with the entity which composed this "fun little forward" and I started to wonder how many people actually take this sort of thing seriously. How many people are "hurt" by this game?

General Thoughts During The Course Of A Cold Boring Day.
America, Isn't There A Better Way?
It is extremely cold at my present residence, I noticed by the weather forecast that neighbors all around me are probably contemplating hybernation until the spring thaw. While there are lots of things we can do in our woolen socks and snuggly bathrobes, there are only so many "good books" to read and favorite re-runs one can watch. I usually start the morning with the warm cup of coffee and the newspaper, then return some phone calls, reply to emails, I check my "to do" list for drips in the sink and light bulbs that need replacing. and then I put on a pot of something steamy and aromatic to tempt me into a fit of hunger. (as if I need an excuse to eat comfort food)
These cold winter days offer us a retreat from all the work, worry and hurry days. They give us time to reflect on what we really want to do with our lives. These solitary days, whether locked in with our families or locked tight away all alone give us time to think about what really matters to us.
As I sip my morning coffee, I think of my dad and all the cold days just like these that he got up so early and
warmed the battered old jalopy that barely got him to work every day. But get there, he did and he came home every Friday with a check to spend on us.
I think of my mother, (mama, we called her). Yes, I remember mama; as clearly as the author "Kathryn Forbes" remembered hers. I remember how she always knew how to make a cold day fun and interesting. My mama had such an imagination... then she became ill. I remember her last day on this earth. She was wrapped in sweaters on a cold day like this one. so early one morning that it was still dark out.... Daddy was out warming the car and mama was worried about us kids.... "You make sure you make up with Rebecca" she said. (it was all about a spat we had a few days earlier) somehow I dont remember the spat....but I remember mama, I wrapped her scarf around her head... kissed her and hugged her (but not for long enough.) Daddy rolled her out to the car in her wheel chair for another trip to dialysis. She got home around lunch time, but she couldn't wait for my work day to be done. She passed away before I could clock out at the end of the day. Things like that make jobs seems so insignificant.
I remember cold holidays with friends... Like Mary Hoyt who lived on Emory Circle in Atlanta. She was certainly the social butterfly... She managed to care for her aging parents, two grown sons, her husband and a full time job, as well as entertain 1/2 Atlanta at her cozy little cottage across from Emory University. Its so easy for people to get caught up in gossip and jealousy. People can be pretty cruel if they put thier mind to it. Mary had her share of spats and manipulations, but these phases passed through her just as surely as the cold North Wind blows through winter into spring. She brushed her hair from her face in the manner of Scarlet O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind" and smiled her way right back into the hearts of those she had just devoured. She was honored at the hospital (where she worked until her death) with a memorial painting of a scene she had dreamt of. Cancer took her shortly after that. She'd buried her parents, made up w/ a long lost brother and arranged for her sons and husband to be provided for. Once again "work" seems very insignificant in this scheme of such things.
There are so many people who come and go in our lives.... Some who don't care to be involved with us....some afraid to admit that they wish they could have one more chance with us. When I really think about it, I just wonder what we really save ourselves from when we let our fears, pride and discomfort keep us from reaching out to those we long to be close to. What's the point of sitting like a knot on a log daring the other person to apologise first?
When it's my turn to go quietly into the night, I wonder if there will be a chance after this life to make up for lost time? Another winters day has just come to a close. I watch the winter sun slide over the mountain, and as I sip my wine, and I wonder what reminds the world of my existence besides the candles that I light and place in my window every night.

America, Isn't There A Better Way?
Americans need relief.
Employment. Health Care and a Home Of Their Own.
In Reference To : IRAQ etc.?
World Peace begins at home. Think about it. How have we stopped mass shootings and burning towers by sending our soldiers to attack and police some other country's people.
In Reference to : Healthcare. Hospitals Drs & Insurance.
WHY does it take 2000 pgs to resolve a case of Big Business overcharging America for Healthcare?

Tiger Woods... if you want to be normal, get a normal job and no one will care what u do except your wife.
America, Isn't There A Better Way?
I love reading the comments of Bob Schieffer. So often I find that we think alike. Mr. Schieffer tells it like it is, plain and simple. His comments on the "Tiger" situation describe my sentiments exactly. When you "choose" to sign-on for "extra-ordinary" benefits, perks and wages, it "should be" assumed that you are willing to attempt to behave like an "extra-ordinary" person.
If you are going to whine, complain and gripe about the demands of "your job" , do what the rest of us do.
Quit the job and get one you are happy with. Sometimes the change results in a cut in pay, benefits and perks.
Sacrifices have to be made in every situation. You chose to live the billionaire life. You can either work the billionare job or give the billions back and live the day to day life that your lowly fans have to live.

Healthcare affects the community. MAMOGRAMS, SAVE LIVES.
America, Isn't There A Better Way?
The USA was founded on diversity of beliefs, hard to believe that 200+ yrs later, each of us still wants to control the individual thoughts and beliefs of others.
Come on America stop feeding the frenzy that media and the legislatures ignite.
Dont fall for the petty issues they bait us with.
Make them stick to the issues that are important. Dont get sidetracked on issues resticting individual choices.
Neighbors are arguing over issues of individual right and choice while in Washington the politicians continue to use our bickering as cover for thier inappropriate encroachments. And as they study more and more ways to restrict the freedoms of the people who elected them, they also bury loopholes which permit them to escape the restrictions they impose.
Healthcare is an issue which affects the community. DISEASE is contageous, MAMOGRAMS, while a matter of indiv choice, have been proven to save lives. But as long as they have us argue over validity of these issues, THEY (the legislatures) dont have to accept rsponsibility for the welfare of the community (THEY WERE ELECTED TO SERVE).
As long as we argue over petty differences, they can continue to take "hiatus, holiday parties, company perks and big business pay-offs". They can set up thier so-called committees which are fattened with the money that could have funded the education of our children and the medical programs which could have saved the lives of our families and ourselves.
I dont believe that America should have been established for the benefit of the few who wield thier ill gotten power or use thier money (gained from exploiting the "have-nots") for the purpose of self gratification.
I do not think that the law is written only for those who can pay a judge and lawyer to make changes to an agreement behind closed doors.
But as long as we close our eyes to the truth behind the current arguments, these things will continue to happen.
Come on Americans, TAKE THE CHIPS OFF YOUR SHOULDERS, GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF THE SAND AND LETS KEEP THE INSTIGATORS (the politicians) FOCUSED ON THE ISSUES WE ELECTED THEM TO RESOLVE.

TARP Money Suggestions: America, Isn't There A Better Way?
I was recently asked:
What would you suggest should be done with leftover $200 billion TARP money?
Dear President Obama and Current Legislature:
Invest in America. Create a lottery for the best new inventions. The potential winners would submit estimated production costs and ideas on manufacturing, A committee would review the submissions and grant the money to the best of the best for start-up and hiring employees. The grant money would have to be re-paid to the fund for future recipients.
Invest in scientific research for new ideas on safe fuels for transportation, agricultural production to feed the hungry and organized ways to save health care costs . The best of the best would get grants to hire help and build the companies for research and manufacturing purposes on the condition that the grant would be repaid for future recipients.
The panel of judges who decide who qualifies to get the grant would be business people who had a proven track record of sound judgement, honesty, impartial fairness and previous success.
This idea would put the focus back where it belongs... On America as a team with common purpose.

America, Isn't There A Better Way?
Who is really controlling the Economy and Healthcare?
Do we (the taxpayers) send checks, meal plans or plane tickets in our letters to our representatives?
NO.
We assume that our tax money and our votes are enough to secure the loyalty of those we elect to represent us. But… wait did we really elect these people ?
Lately we find more and more reasons to doubt the intentions of those "entrusted to create our laws".
We have learned that the popular vote may OR may not count.
I guess it depends on who is monitoring (or patronizing) the ELECTORAL COLLEGE.
After we calm down from the agitation that our vote doesn't always count.
Our conformity and support of the "winner" still may not guarantee rulings in favor of the "general public."
(General Public being those of us who make less than a MILLION a year.)
Let's face it, Insurance Companies, Banks and Other Big Business Companies can offer those lawmakers much more than we can. They can walk into each of the legislative offices bringing gifts, $$, and other commodities.
Do you think that any of us would not be tempted to sell out the future of our country, and of our children for a few wonderful years of being "wined and dined ".
The reality (America) is that the gaps between the have(s) and have-nots
are never going to decrease.
ACCESS to Healthcare will never be distributed with equally.
Wages and ownership will never be shared.
In life as in football it's “take the ball and run” or “get sacked” while your not looking.
“It’s easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission”
Life is not a game for those who play fair.
THE POOR will always be LESS EDUCATED, and PUNISHED more severely.
This is the way the world works. Just ask the politicians.
